Born in Arizona and then mailed to upstate New York, Pineapple has spent her entire life in captivity.  In 2020 her owner contacted NY Dept. of Environmental Conservation and surrendered her. Eastern Box Turtles are illegal pets throughout the northeast.  New York conservation officers contacted the Museum and asked if the Museum would take her in.  She is very different in appearance when compared to our male box turtle and has adapted well to the life of an education animal.
